Fans of local bar rock band the Evening Rig will be delighted to hear that the group is releasing their next album, Is Doin' Stuff, on March 27 at the Entry. The hardworking folks over at Switchblade Comb have an exclusive preview track from the forthcoming album, so head over there to sample "The Hilltop Pines."Personally, I was most excited to catch a glimpse of the new album artwork, which is a continuation of the vintage photograph theme that they started with their debut album, 2007's Never Been'er.
There's something about these old photographs that captures the Evening Rig's worn-in, beer-soaked sound perfectly. Here's a graphic of the new album cover:

And here's their first album cover, for comparison:

Listen to the new Evening Rig single at Switchblade Comb!

We received the test pressings today for the new 7" single by The Evening Rig. It features the album track "The Hilltop Pines" backed with a cover of Willie Nelson's "I Gotta Get Drunk." The Willie cover is exclusive to the 7". The single should be out sometime in early March, a few weeks before the album.

In the meantime, please go visit our friends at Switchblade Comb and take a first listen to "The Hilltop Pines."

We would like to sincerely thank Switchblade Comb for their support.

We hope to see you at the 7th Street Entry on Friday, March 27 for the Is Doin' Stuff record release show. The Dynamiters and The Millionth Word are opening. It'll be a blast!

Chooglin' LP finally here!

About a month and a half after the record release show, we finally have records.

The newest Heart of a Champion release is a vinyl-only release from Chooglin'. Titled Nice Place, Nice Party, Nice Folks (HoC-025), it was recorded live at the 7th Street Entry in December 2007. All songs except for one are exclusive to this record. None of them will appear on Chooglin's new studio album, which is coming out on the Fat Possum imprint Big Legal Mess later this year.

Anyhoo, this LP is pressed in an edition of 500. Each one includes a CD copy, but the CD is not available separately.

The record is currently available at Treehouse Records in Minneapolis. It will be up for sale on our website store and in other Twin Cities stores at some point over the next week, and distributors should have it within the next couple of weeks.

Unreleased TITV album now available as free download

The late, great Thunder In the Valley have been gracious enough to give away their final album Aloha in the form of a free download. Recorded in Philadelphia with Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man), some of the songs appeared on their Where Oh Where Oh Where EP, but the rest of 'em never saw the light of day during the band's active lifespan.

Download it here!
